PTFE is so widely used, it is truly the “King of Plastics”

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is currently the most widely used a fluoropolymer, is the most resistant to chemical corrosion, has the best dielectric properties and a wide range of working temperature varieties, known as the "king of plastics".
PTFE has high temperature resistance (can be used for a long time in the temperature range of 200 ~ 260 ℃), low temperature resistance (can be used for a long time below -100 ℃), corrosion resistance (with high chemical inertness), weather resistance (high atmospheric aging resistance), high lubrication (with a very small coefficient of friction), non-adhesive (surface tension is very low, not easy to adhere), good human compatibility (with good physiological inertness, non-toxic), good electrical insulation (high insulation, and not affected by temperature, humidity) and a series of advantages, PTFE, these characteristics are closely related to its molecular configuration.
Chemical field
PTFE is neither dissolved nor swollen in any of the known liquids, so PTFE parts do not change in size in any corrosive medium, no matter how long they are used. PTFE makes large thin-walled containers that are widely used in laboratories and factories that use corrosive liquids, and it is also widely used in seals, pipe linings, pumps, valves, etc.
Mechanical field
No matter what kind of machinery and equipment, the sliding surfaces need to be lubricated to reduce the friction factor, wear and heat to ensure the normal operation of machinery and equipment capacity, accuracy and power consumption. PTFE's low coefficient of friction and self-lubricating properties make it widely used in the manufacture of bearings, piston rings, machine tool guides and sealing materials, but because it is more expensive, it is usually used in precision instruments or need acid and alkali resistant environments.
Electrical field
PTFE's excellent dielectric properties, which are virtually independent of temperature and frequency, as well as its high thermal stability, make it an irreplaceable electrical insulator, especially at high frequencies and temperatures and in humid environments.
Today many forms of PTFE materials play an important role in the field of electrical and electronic insulation. PTFE glass lacquer cloth and glass cloth are used to make high-temperature and high-frequency insulation materials, which can be used in satellite communications and computers. PTFE film is used to make capacitors, as an insulation layer between instruments, gaskets, cables, etc. PTFE thin-walled tubes of different diameters are used for lead-in wire sleeves, heat-shrinkable tubes and spiral tube, insulated pilot tube for generators, etc.
PTFE is an amazing material, it has more potential waiting for people to explore. Practitioners of new materials should not only be familiar with the properties of the materials, but also maximize their characteristics to provide us with various possibilities for a better life.
